People Having Fun at the San Diego Earth Day CelebrationDrinks and More at the San Diego Earth Day Celebration

First held April 22nd, 1970, Earth Day Festivals have been celebrated around the same day now for more than 50 years!

The Earth Day theme for 2025 is ‘OUR POWER, OUR PLANET’. It’s a call to unite behind renewable energy and also setting a goal of tripling global renewable energy generation by the year 2030.

What is San Diego EarthFest

San Diego EarthFest is a celebration of our planet.

More than 100 eco-friendly vendors will be on hand offering delicious sustainable food, earth-friendly products and services that support our environment and each other. The zero-waste event is good for the whole family and dog-friendly as well.

There will be live music on the Music Stage sponsored by Dr. Bonner’s and panel discussions and guest speakers on the Education Stage sponsored by Tape Head Audio.

You can also expect yoga and wellness classes and activities for your kids. A portion of profits will be donated to local nonprofit groups. The event really offers something for everyone to enjoy!

When & Where Can I Find the Festivities?

Set for Saturday, April 19th, 2025 from 11:00am – 5:00pm, this 6 hour FREE event is the largest Earth Day festival in San Diego.

You will find the festivities in Balboa Park, specifically on the Balboa Park Boulevard and Presidents Way Lawn at Park Boulevard San Diego, CA 92101.

I’ll fill you in on how to get there and parking a bit later, but know that if the event is like 2024, it will be well attended. My best advice is to come early if possible and be ready for some crowds. Finding it won’t be an issue as there will be signs leading you to everything you’ll want to see and do!

Our Thoughts About Earth Day

On a personal note, I can say that Earth Day, San Diego’s own EarthFest, and the causes behind them mean a lot to me. I’m concerned about the well-being of our planet now and for generations to come. With small kids in my family, I wonder what world they will inherit if we don’t all do our part to protect it.

I know that our founder Todd is also a huge advocate of environmentally friendly practices and someone that loves eco-tourism, nature and even a great outdoor trip where he and his family ‘leave no trace’.

So as we dive more into the details of our local event, know that our team are all big supporters of the event, and our planet!

What to Expect at San Diego EarthFest 2025

As San Diego’s largest annual Earth Day celebration for more than 30 years, there will be a lot to see and do from vendors to live entertainment, guest speakers, family-friendly activities and more!

I can say that we’ve all enjoyed the event in years past. April features some of the best weather San Diego has to offer so come on out and have some fun with us as we celebrate our planet together.

More Than 100 Vendors

I think the main event of the festival is the vendors. With more than 100 vendors signed-up for 2025, you can expect an International food court with lots of tasty food products plus eco-friendly goods and services. Environmental and conservation groups will also be represented.

My personal favorite is the animal rescue groups as they always have a few cute rescued animals on hand.

Kids Activities

Hosted by Healthy Kids Happy Planet, there will be a lot for your kids to do.

Arts and crafts are the highlight with bean art and a healthy eating plate challenge being a couple of the kid’s favorites. There will also be games and puzzles plus your kids will surely be entertained walking around exploring the vendors, especially the ones with tasty foods on display.

Hippeas will be providing free snacks which will surely be a hit!

Yoga & Wellness

A full schedule of yoga practices, meditation sessions, reiki and more is set for EarthFest 2025. Let’s have a look at the schedule.

  • 11:00am – Guided Movement Meditation with Mohini Gima (45 minutes)
  • 12:00pm – All Levels Vinyasa Yoga with Noeva Monje (45 minutes)
  • 1:00pm – Laughter Yoga with Rachel Frank (30 minutes)

Education Stage

A lot of what Earth Day is all about is ‘education’. The idea is to educate people around the world on eco-friendly practices, products, services and more that are good for our planet.

EarthFest has had some really interesting speakers and panel discussion in past years so I’m hoping 2025 will be the same. The Education Stage features an extensive list of talks hosted by Rachel Hosler from the Kind Heart Coalition.

  • 11:00am - Presentation: The World is Your Oyster Mushroom
  • 12:00pm - Panel Discussion: Climate Activism
  • 1:00pm – Book Talk: Read for the Planet
  • 2:00pm - Panel Discussion: Protecting Wildlife
  • 3:00pm - Presentation: Tips for an Eco Lifestyle
  • 4:00pm - Presentation: Growing Fruit Trees in San Diego

I’m excited for the panel discussion about protecting wildlife at 2:00pm which will feature Jaclyn Ekhaml from the Global Conservation Force and Jess Sorrentino from the Cheetah Conservation Fund.

I’m also personally looking forward to the book talk by Ayan Ramanathan which will discuss ‘Listen Up Kids! Our Planet is Changing.’ I think it’s really important to educate our kids on climate change and what we can each do to help, so let’s see what’s discussed.

Balboa Park features free parking and ways to take public transit to the event, a more sustainable way to go!

How to Get to Balboa Park

Balboa Park, home to trails, cafes, the world-famous San Diego Zoo, and more than a dozen family-friendly museums is located just to the east of Downtown San Diego. You’ll find Golden Hill and the East Village to the south, Bankers Hill to the west, North Park to the north, and Burlingame and South Park to the east.

The best ways to drive in would be by taking I-5 or Highway 163 with local roads surrounding the park being great options as well.

Parking

There are 11 free parking lots each with handicapped spots. I’d recommend the Federal Lot or Pan American Plaza Lot as your first choices but they are sure to fill up on the day of the event.

Any of the parking lots will work with the Park’s free tram running throughout as well.

If you have an electric car and need charging, head to the Fleet Science Center and San Diego Zoo parking lots.

Public Transit Options

Public transportation options in San Diego are always a great option! That especially rings true when we’re talking about an Earth Day event.

Many bus lines will take you to Balboa Park including the lines 120, Rapid 215, Route 7, FLIXBUS 2017, and 3. I know taking the bus may not be something you often do, but San Diego’s system is quite easy and perhaps taking to the event is a small thing you and your family can do to save our planet!

You can always take a San Diego rideshare like Uber or Lyft which will drop you in designated locations near the event. I know that they usually let riders out near the Pan American Plaza Lot which is a great place to be dropped.

Looking For a Greener Future

San Diego’s EarthFest 2025 is all about sustainability, eco-friendly practices, fantastic food and coming together as a community for a great cause.

A Zero Waste Event

The goal is for the event to be a zero waste event.

This basically means that the amount of energy that is used, or disposed of will equal the amount of energy that is produced. This is especially important during large gatherings as you can only imagine how much garbage and energy they can use.

The 2025 EarthFest’s goal of zero waste is a lofty one to say the least, but I for one think they will meet it!

An Event on a Mission

EarthFest’s mission is to educate and empower, helping us all better understand how we can do our part for the environment.

I love that not only will my family be entertained, get to eat great food and listen to fun music, but they also will learn a thing or two about how when we work together as a community we can really make a difference!
