Catch incredible musicians, famous comedians, cultural performances, and more during the 2024 season at the Balboa Theatre in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter.
Dating back to 1924, the Balboa Theatre is one of the oldest theater venues in San Diego, even predating the historic Old Globe Theatre. Alongside the San Diego Civic Theatre, each year brings a new exciting lineup.

The Biggest Upcoming Shows and Performances
The Balboa Theatre welcomes talent to the stage around the year. Performances include stand-up comedians, ballet performances, shows presented by the San Diego Opera and San Diego Symphony, and concerts.
From The San Diego Ballet’s showing of Giselle to ringing in the holidays in San Diego with the Glenn Miller Orchestra’s suite of Christmas songs, there’s no shortage of incredible performances during the 2024 season.

Experience the Gaslamp Quarter
While Balboa Park is one of my favorite areas in San Diego, I don’t want you to get confused and think you’ll find the Balboa Theater in the park.
The theatre is actually located in Downtown San Diego, more specifically in the Gaslamp Quarter. There you’ll be able to not only catch a show but also enjoy the nightlife scene, take a foodie tour like Brothels Bites & Booze Tour, or spend time at haunted hangouts, which I think are the perfect follow-up activities to a night at the theater.
You can even stay at one of my favorite hotels in the area, the Horton Grand Hotel.
It’s worth mentioning here that you can experience all the neighborhood, and San Diego, has to offer at a discount when you pick up a Go City San Diego pass in advance of your travels. The pass ensures the lowest prices for many of the area's attractions, museums and tours.
Golden Era of Theatre
Take a moment to explore the historic architecture and details of the theatre before the show starts. The ornate decor and unique features add to the overall experience and transport you back in time.
