Fun Kid Attractions at Belmont Park in Mission Beach
What started as a one-block parade on a shoestring budget has ballooned into a major event with tons of things to do, including great family-friendly St. Patrick’s Day activities.
If you’ve seen any of our articles covering things like the best thing to do with kids or perhaps our unique things to do in San Diego article, you’ll know that fun for the whole family is what Go Visit San Diego is all about!
So with that in mind, let’s have a look at some of the highlights of the event I’m most excited for this year.
Emphasis on Entrepreneurship
Irish-owned businesses may not be as common in Southern California as they are on the East Coast, but there are still plenty in San Diego. In fact, Balboa Park’s first St. Patrick’s Day Parade was held right outside an Irish pub.
The festival has never lost that emphasis on Irish entrepreneurial spirit, keeping it at the forefront of the celebrations. You’ll see lots of floats and booths created by locally-owned, Irish-inspired businesses, plus many that call to mind Irish history and culture and its important role in San Diego’s community.
Dynamic Entertainment
The parade and festival both feature live entertainment. You’ll get to watch Irish river dancers, listen to traditional Celtic music, and enjoy modern songs as well from a host of local musicians and other performers.
If you’ve got young children, head to the kids’ area! You’ll find rides and games perfect for the littles members of the family.

Food and Craft Booths
What would a cultural festival be without its food and drinks?
I can tell you that this will likely be a huge highlight for me and my family. Food and Wine festivals like the SeaWorld Seven Seas Food Festival 2025 starting this month and continuing until the end of April and the Food, Wine & Brew at the San Diego Zoo moved up to May for 2025 are some of my favorite events of the year! I know they are popular events so I must not be alone in my love for interesting and cultural cuisine.
The St. Patrick’s Day Festival will have booths serving up traditional favorites like stew, shepherd’s pie, and potatoes every way you can imagine. Adults can visit the Beer Garden for a pint of authentic Guinness as well!
I’d suggest you browse the stalls for themed goods and crafts that showcase the spirit of Irish culture such as knitted clothing, Celtic jewelry, and other handmade items.
