You can visit SeaWorld San Diego in Mission Bay Park any time of year for thrill rides and aquatic shows. But if you’re wondering about the best time to visit this theme park, I’d definitely recommend going during a special event.

The park has festivities for different holidays like the annual Howl-O-Scream and Christmas Celebration events. And while my family loves those events I must say that my personal favorite has to be the Seven Seas Food Festival!

What Is the Seven Seas Food Festival?

The Seven Seas Food Festival is an annual culinary event held at SeaWorld San Diego featuring 20 food stalls offering an exciting menu of more than 150 food and drink items set to be held every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from March 7th - April 27th, 2025. The hours are 10am to 8pm on Friday and Saturday's and 10am to 7pm on Sunday.

Executive Chef Zuric Ramirez and his talented team of chefs have carefully curated authentic dishes from around the world offering everything from spicy Latin flavors to Southern California favorites and Far East fare.

And let’s not forget the sweets and drinks! My kids always love the desserts while I must admit that my wife and I love the selection of craft beers, cocktails, and wines. All the amazing food and drinks can be experienced while enjoying live musical performances from a variety of local talent.

I’ve been to this event a few times recently with my family and it’s been a blast every time. I knew for 2025 that I needed to share my thoughts and what I liked best from last year’s event, plus what you can look forward to this year!

Beat the Crowds, Savor the Flavor
Take it from a local - arriving early means shorter lines, hotter, fresher food, and the best tasting bites of the day.

Samplers and Stand-Out Menus

With so many food and drinks to choose from, the Seven Seas Food Festival will have you sampling traditional cuisines from around the world.

Stands and locations represented for the 2025 festival include Africa, Italy, Spain, the Mediterranean market, Korea, Ireland, the Philippines, Southern California favorites, Peru, Costa Rica, Brazil, Polynesia, and even Antarctica.

You won’t be surprised to hear that the food and drinks aren’t included in admission. You can however pay per item when you order.

Alternatively, guests can buy a Seven Seas sampling lanyard. These come in a 10-item sampler pass for $70 or a 15-item pass for $85. In my experience, these passes offer enough food for a couple to split and are the best value. If you buy the food with a sampler pass most are over $12 each and with the 15-item pass you can get each item for under $6.

The full menu of food and drink items can be found on the SeaWorld site’s Seven Seas Food Festival event page. As I mentioned above, this year’s event will feature more than 20 food and drink stalls located around the park and over 150 different options, so zeroing in on the best things to get can be tricky.

But that’s where I come in – a local that loves food, drinks and of course this event!

Since the menu is so extensive, I’ll give you a selection of my favorite items from past years and some exciting new flavors on this year’s menu as well!

My Recommended Food Choices

It’s good to know that the food menu changes every year. Last year my wife loved the carnitas tacos and I was a big fan of the shredded beef sope, but we’re looking forward to touring other areas of the world like Spain and Korea at this year’s festival.

As someone who’s been to Costa Rica quite a few times, has a sister site GoVisitCostaRica.com, and loves Costa Rican food, I’m excited to try the festival’s version of sopa negra and see how it stacks up. Other selections I’m looking forward to this year are the Brazilian chimichurri churasco and Southern Californian cherry Coke short ribs served over house-made chips.

Don’t be afraid to try new foods either, as you just might find your new favorite. My son loves the Polynesian fried spam musubi, which is spam fried rice dressed up as sushi. You can even get a sample of escargot from France’s booth, or swing by Spain to try octopus on crostini bread.

My Favorite Sweet Treats

Sampling desserts is the sweetest way to broaden your culinary horizons - just ask my kids!

You’re probably familiar with the macarons and eclairs from France and the cannolis from Italy, but don’t forget about Peruvian alfajores cookies and Spanish miguelito puff pastries.

We all also love baklava, a Greek dessert that our family agrees is super underrated.

But I really think that one of the best spots for desserts is the Antarctica stand, which has four different kinds of sweet treats. Taiwanese shaved ice and halo halo sound great on a hot day, but the coconut snowball chocolate cake gets the seal of approval from my family.

The Best Refreshing Drinks

When you’re walking around SeaWorld in San Diego’s warm temperatures, nothing beats a refreshing drink. The Seven Seas Food Festival features 11 different spots to get alcoholic drinks, including a mimosa bar, a European wine boutique, and an Irish pub.

The pineapple and mango micheladas are perfect for sunny weather, and the Sol Bar has lots of classic cocktails. My wife and I loved the Tiki Bar’s punch last year, and the frozen mai tais on this year’s menu will be one of our must-try drinks.

If you like craft beer, you won’t be disappointed - there are more than 30 different beer brands available for you to enjoy, with everything from foreign malts like Kirin Ichiban to local brewers like Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits.

Live Music and Entertainment

With a variety of musical performances and live entertainment set for this year’s event, there really is a lot more to enjoy than just the delicious food and drinks.

In previous years, food festival entertainment has included SeaWorld character meet-and-greets, German operetta, and traditional Chinese lion and dragon dancing. When I attended in 2024, my favorite performers were the all-girl mariachi group, who were really legit!

This year promises a new set of equally fun live concerts from around the globe for guests to experience. Let’s have a look at the stages and the performances you can expect to see!

Seven Seas Show Stage

The Seven Seas Show Stage is being taken over by K-pop for the 2025 event! Korean bands have become household names worldwide over the last number of years.

As groups like BTS have hit the charts, interest has grown and getting to see the choreography along with the vocals is something I’m thinking my teens will really enjoy.

SoCal Stage

New for 2025 is the SoCal Stage, highlighting talent from right in Southern California.

This stage will feature live performances by local bands, plus mixes curated by local DJs.

Samba Stage

The Samba Stage is the place to see a troupe of Brazilian dancers showcasing South American culture through a lively show. The footwork and precision needed for this dance gets me every time and I’m really looking forward to seeing this group at this year’s festival.

Polynesian Stage

If the crowds are an indicator of popularity then the Polynesian Stage has been a fan favorite in years past.

My wife, kids and I love seeing these talented performers breathe fire, twirl batons, and perform intricate choreographed dances during these heart-racing and thrilling performances.

Waterfront Stage

Over on the Waterfront Stage, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy ukulele players and more traditional Polynesian dances.

Know Before You Go & Tips

Through some trial and error, I’ve learned the best way to tackle the SeaWorld Seven Seas Food Festival. Here are a few things to keep in mind before you arrive.

Plan to Go Early

The food for the event is made fresh at SeaWorld San Diego, but it’s not prepared at the stands. Instead, it’s cooked early in the morning and kept warm in chafing buffet trays.

I can tell you from personal experience that the later in the day you arrive, the longer the food has been warming, so it’s not as good. Which is why I’d definitely suggest going as early as possible when everything is hot and fresh, which is what I do.

Stay Near the Food Festival

If you’re considering making a weekend out of the event or just looking for a place to stay nearby after an evening of great food and drinks, I’d recommend the La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham San Diego Mission Bay. The hotel is about five miles away from SeaWorld San Diego and the Seven Seas Food Festival.

Some features of the La Quinta Inn that I love are its outdoor pool, hot tub, electric vehicle charging station, and continental breakfast for guests.

It’s also just a short drive away from many of San Diego’s popular beaches including Mission Beach, La Jolla Shores Beach, and Pacific Beach. Plus, it’s not far from other top San Diego attractions such as the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, and the Sunset Cliffs National Park.
