SeaWorld San Diego in Mission Bay Park is one of San Diego’s premier theme parks complete with animal encounters, exciting shows, and heart pumping thrill rides. But I think one of the places that the park really shines is through its interactive and educational aquariums.

SeaWorld San Diego just opened Jewels of the Sea, an exhibit all about jellyfish that I think you should circle on your map as a must-see attraction during your next trip to the park.

Introducing Jewels of the Sea

Jewels of the Sea, which opened on March 14th, 2025 is SeaWorld San Diego’s newest immersive exhibit. Spread over multiple galleries, it invites visitors to explore and learn about the mysterious world of jellyfish.

The park uses water and light as a way to make visitors feel like they are walking through the world of the jellies, creatures that are older than the dinosaurs! You and your family will be able to view, learn about and even touch jellyfish! Crazy right. And it’s more than just high-level information.

SeaWorld San Diego Ticket Information

If you are interested in being among the first to visit Jewels of the Sea and get face-to-face with jellyfish, you can do just that with a general admission ticket to the park.

As a local that lives less than 15 minutes from the SeaWorld San Diego, I stay up on the best ways to visit as it’s a top choice for my visiting friends and family, plus I want to save on admission when I take my family as well.

I know that the absolute best way to get the lowest admission price is with a Go City San Diego pass.

The pass will get you into SeaWorld San Diego on your day of choice without needing to wait in any lines upon arrival and will also include admission to more than 50 attractions throughout San Diego.

I like to surf so if I have friends in La Jolla that need a surfboard rental, we get them a Go pass. Also top wildlife attractions like the world-famous San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park and the Birch Aquarium at Scripps in La Jolla are also included as part of the pass.

So if you want to visit two or more attractions you’ll pay less than the advertised admission prices to get into SeaWorld San Diego. But I want you to feel good about the pass too so have a look for yourself and use discount code GVSD5OFF for a little added savings at checkout!

Learning About Jellyfish

The Jewel of the Sea, a captivating 360-degree deep-sea adventure for the eyes and mind is SeaWorld San Diego newest exhibit designed to entertain and educate.

But you might be wondering what it feels like to be there and what you might learn about while visiting.

Realm of the Jellies

Many of San Diego’s wildlife and sea life parks do a really nice job of offering a hands-on, interactive experience. Me and my family especially like the Birch Aquarium at Scripps as there’s so much to see and even more to learn.

But I’ve noticed recently that SeaWorld San Diego is also stepping up their game and the Jewels of the Sea seems to just be the latest and greatest on offer. The interactive habitats surround you as you get up-close, even looking upside-down at times at these fascinating and delicate beauties of the sea.

The tank filled with moon jellies is a feast for the eyes and the information on the anatomy and lifecycle, plus propagation process is really unbelievable. And you’ll get to see multiple kinds of jellyfish as well including moon jellies and my personal favorite, the sea nettles!

Habitats and Immersive Experiences

SeaWorld San Diego has really gone above and beyond with Jewels of the Sea, creating an educational experience that highlights these fascinating creatures and their place in our world.

Let’s have a look at how SeaWorld designed the exhibit and I’ll also share a special tour that includes some additional guided information plus a chance to touch the jellyfish!

The Jellyfish Passage

For me, the Jellyfish Passage is the most impressive part of the new Jewels of the Sea exhibit.

You first enter through a 10-foot-tall archway of moon jellies swimming about. It really sets the mood with a glowing atmosphere that allows you to see the jellyfish in all their glory. The area is an educational experience filled with interactive displays and a 14-foot-tall jellyfish aquarium that just so happens to be one of the tallest in the nation.

I’d say the atmosphere the park created in this part of the exhibit is ‘dreamy’ and immersive with the glow of the lights and movement all around making it feel like somehow you're walking through the world of the jellyfish.

Medusa Gallery

The jellyfish experience concludes in a huge gallery filled with informative exhibits known as the Medusa Gallery. SeaWorld set up LED visuals dispersed throughout eight ‘storytelling chapters’ creating a very unique 360 degree experience.

SeaWorld describes the area as a ‘jellyfish kaleidoscope’ and I think that sounds about right. It’s a deep sea digital journey exploring and learning about bioluminescence, the jellies and the fascinating world of our oceans.

Behind-the-Scenes Tour

If you really want to take your family’s experience to the next level, sign-up for the Jelly Up-Close Tour.

For just $49.99 per person, you’ll be led on a walking tour by one of SeaWorld’s expert aquarists. They’ll give you a behind-the-scenes look at how the park cares for and breeds the jellyfish. In just 15-minutes you’ll learn about everything from their biology to lifecycle and more!

I think the highlight of the tour, besides the educational information of course, is the rare chance to touch and interact with the jellies! My kids are all about touching these translucent and mystical creatures, and I’m happy to stand back and let them do that!

SeaWorld San Diego is an incredible park where families can learn, laugh and make memories together. But it can also be overwhelming if you don’t do a little planning ahead.

Below is a little bonus information from someone that frequents the park that should help your trip go smoothly.

Stay Near SeaWorld San Diego

SeaWorld San Diego is located in Mission Bay Park, a manmade bay featuring multiple hotels, a walking path, water activities like kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding and some pretty incredible beaches great for kids!

The Dana on Mission Bay would be a great choice as it’s literally minutes from SeaWorld San Diego. Featuring two outdoor pools, the rooms are classic, clean and spacious, perfect for relaxing after a fantastic day at the park.

My other choice for staying on Mission Bay during your trip to SeaWorld San Diego to see the Jewels of the Sea would be the contemporarily designed Paradise Point Resort & Spa. The complex is massive with pools, walking trails, fire pits, great views of the water and of course access to the beach.

SeaWorld San Diego’s Seasonal Events

I think seasonal and holiday events can add a lot to a visit to a theme park and SeaWorld San Diego is one of the biggest players when it comes to offering incredible experiences. While my teenage kids love Howl-O-Scream and SeaWorld’s Christmas Celebration, my personal favorite special event of the year is probably the Seven Seas Food Festival in SeaWorld San Diego.

The good news is that the Seven Seas Food Festival in SeaWorld San Diego is going on now!
