Belmont in Bloom – A Celebration of Spring!

Beach and Shops at Belmont ParkBeach Treats at Belmont Park

San Diego’s historical theme park on Mission Beach, Belmont Park is celebrating its centennial birthday in 2025. That’s right, Belmont Park is turning 100!

And while that official celebration is set to kick off on July 4th, 2025, the park will first be welcoming guests to one of its most colorful events of the year. The Belmont in Bloom spring festival will start on Saturday, April 5th, 2025 and last until Sunday, June 1st, 2025.

Located on the beach at 3146 Mission Blvd, the park makes many of our list of the best things to do in San Diego as it’s been part of the city much before any of us were here.

My daughter is a big fan of the iconic wooden roller coaster, the Giant Dipper, and I’d say I just love the nostalgia of the 7-acre park. To me, I can feel the history, almost like walking back in time. There’s surely something cool about that feeling. Add in the fair treats like ice cream and cotton candy and my family is always up for a visit!

Also, San Diego has great weather year round but the spring is one of my favorite seasons, and the perfect time for a visit during the Belmont in Bloom event!

What is the Belmont in Bloom Event?

Belmont in Bloom is Belmont Park’s spring spectacular, as they bring the beauty of spring to the beach, decorating the park in a Kaleidoscope of color. Visitors can expect flowers and sculptures with extra entertainment, music, and activities special just to this time of year.

They also have some really awesome limited-time only food and drink options that I am excited to try!

Discounted Tickets

Belmont Park is the kind of place that you can visit for a few hours, or spend a whole day exploring. At just 7-acres, the park feels very manageable and is worth a visit if you or your family like wooden roller coasters, games and a festive atmosphere.

For tickets, I suggest you get a Go City San Diego pass using discount code GVSD5OFF. The Ride and Play Pass includes admission to the park and Belmont in Bloom festival including unlimited rides.

The Go City San Diego pass also includes admission to more than 55 additional attractions including some of the most popular in San Diego like the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park, SeaWorld San Diego in Mission Bay Park, and more than a dozen family-friendly museums spread throughout the city.

You’ll find that if you and your family are interested in even two attractions that the Go City San Diego pass will offer you lower than advertised admission prices. This is one of my top tips for my friends and family when they visit to make sure they are getting the best deals.

What to Expect at Belmont in Bloom

Belmont Park always feels like a lively place to me, with lots of rides, games and attractions. Think early 1900’s Coney Island style including rides like a carousel, bumper cars, and a miniature train for the younger kids, plus Beach Blaster pendulum ride, a really cool arcade, and laser tag for the big kids. For me, mini golf and a cold drink is all that I need!

The park also offers seasonal events that really help set the mood. Let’s have a look at what you can expect from their springtime celebration!

Live Music

The Belmont in Bloom event welcomes local talent every Saturday and Sunday from 3:00pm – 5:00pm.

My kids are looking forward to seeing No Clue Band. They’ll be rocking, laying down the tunes and my daughter will likely be dancing, making memories which is what it’s all about.

Special Attractions on the Weekends

The event is going on each day between April 5th and June 1st, but the weekends are when you really want to attend if you are looking for the full experience. Below are the extras you get if you visit on a weekend.

  • Dancing Tulip Stilt Walkers – Saturdays from 3 pm to 5 pm.
  • Caricature Artists – Saturdays from 1:00pm – 6:00pm.
  • Face Painting - Sundays from 2:00pm – 6:00pm
  • Balloon Artist making ‘Every Moment Pop’ - Sundays from 3:00pm – 5:00pm

My family’s favorite is surely the face painter! Every year on my daughter’s birthday we attend one of San Diego’s Día de los Muertos festivals in the fall where we all get our faces painted in the traditional way, which makes our face look like a skeleton!

It may sound strange but it makes that event incredibly festive so getting our faces painted this year at Belmont in Bloom is on our list of things to do!

Unique Food and Drinks

It wouldn’t be a proper seasonal event without a nice selection of fun food and drink options!

Belmont Park always has interesting things to eat at the beachfront restaurants, cafe, and snack stands like corndogs, funnel cakes and cotton candy, but the festival takes this up a few notches.

The Bites at Belmont will include treats like Matcha Strawberry Latte, Watermelon Lime Dole Soft Serve, Peaches & Cream Funnel Cake, and charity cocktails!

An Explosion of Color

Springtime in San Diego is all about color and Belmont Park takes this to the next level during their springtime festival.

A Flower Paradise

If you like beautiful flower arrangements then I think you’ll really appreciate the colors during this 2 month event.

From reds to lavender to yellows and pinks, the entire park is decorated with floral arrangements that are just incredibly beautiful.

Instagrammable Moments

If you like taking pictures, and possibly posting them online to share with your friends and family, then you won’t want to miss this event. The park specifically designed spots throughout meant for the perfect photo opportunity.

And honestly, I think taking pictures in front of the Giant Dipper, one of the carnival style games or even the arcade is worth the shot year-round. So add in the flowers and you’ll be sure to want to grab a few extra shots!

More Flowers!

If you’re like me and my daughter and just really love flowers, I’d also suggest you consider a visit to the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch during their spring bloom. While not part of Belmont Park, it’s got to be the most colorful springtime event in San Diego.

The colorful Giant Tecolote Ranunculus will be in bloom plus new to 2025 they have a Glass in Flight sculpture displays area and the magical experience at the Butterfly Encounter.

The event is going on now and lasts until May 3rd, 2025.
