Now that you’ve been introduced to La Jolla and know there is a lot to do in the area, let’s dive into the hotel comparison!
Some of your first impressions of a hotel are formed when you enter its lobby area. So let’s first compare what you’ll experience when you first arrive.
Reception at La Valencia Hotel
La Valencia’s Lobby
The lobby of La Valencia is not super traditional and doesn’t have a lot of nice places to hang out. There are some tables and chairs, but this hotel is really about its bars, especially its historic bar called The Whaling Bar.
The lobby area does include a concierge who can help you make transportation arrangements, dinner reservations, and give you firsthand knowledge about the area.
Lobby of the Grande Colonial La Jolla
The Lobby at Grande Colonial La Jolla
The lobby of the Grand Colonial is a more traditional lobby with relaxing places to hang out.
It’s also the place where you can book sailing, scuba diving, and sightseeing tours, as well as making reservations for deep sea fishing and hot air balloon rides.
Lobby Seating at the Grande Colonial La Jolla
Our Preferred Lobby: The Grande Colonial La Jolla
While both hotel lobbies offer unparalleled service for their guests, we feel that the Grande Colonial goes just a bit above and beyond for its hotel guests by offering convenient booking and reservation options for local attractions, as well as a better hangout experience.
So while it’s a close call, we believe Grande Colonial is a slightly better option for its lobby.
