The 12 Best Easter Egg Hunts in San Diego in 2025

When it comes to Easter egg hunts and Easter events and activities, San Diego has a pretty impressive list of options.

Let’s have a look at what our team believes to be the best-of-the-best Easter egg hunts and festivals in San Diego for 2025!

Kids Playing on a Play Structure at Balboa Park
Kids Playing on a Play Structure at Balboa Park

1) Easter Eggspress: Egg Quest and Story Time

Neighborhood: Balboa Park
Address:
San Diego Model Railroad Museum: 1649 El Prado San Diego, CA 92101
Date & Time: April 12th & April 13th, 2025 - 9:00am - 10:30pm each day
Cost: Ages 2 & Up $20 | Under 2 free

Let’s start our list with an exciting event for kids of all ages held at one of Balboa Park’s kid-friendly museums. The San Diego Model Railroad Museum is holding a two day event on Saturday, April 12th and Sunday, April 13th from 9:00am – 10:30am each day.

The event will take place before the museum officially opens with an ‘egg quest’ around the museum. But this isn’t just the same old Easter egg hunt! The kids will be tasked with finding hidden details on the railroad layouts. They’ll also have to answer questions about trains, so it should be an immersive, one-of-a-kind experience!

The museum will have special trains running in the Toy Train Gallery, arts and crafts to make Easter decorations, and storytime from 10:00am - 10:30am, which is really fun for the little kids. Do note that there won’t be a rideable train.

After all the eggs are accounted for, your family can enjoy the museum for the rest of the day! Tickets to this special event are $20, with infants under 2 years old admitted for free. They are asking for reservations even for infants so they can keep a count of how many people in total are planning to attend.

If you can’t make the Easter event this year but just want to check out one of San Diego’s most interesting museums, the cheapest way to get tickets is with a Go City San Diego pass using discount code GVSD50FF.

The pass bundles together admission to some of the most popular attractions in San Diego like the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld San Diego, LEGOLAND California and more than a dozen museums in Balboa Park. It offers more than 50 attractions all together at prices that are lower than advertised.

Why We Love This Event

I love that this event is held on the Saturday and Sunday before the big Easter weekend which will free my family up to do other things.

I also really like that it is more than just the average Easter egg hunt with train trivia and a bit of a scavenger hunt on the train layouts to make things more interesting.

2) Elmo's Eggstravaganza at Sesame Place San Diego

Neighborhood: Chula Vista

Sesame Place San Diego: 2052 Entertainment Circle, Chula Vista, CA 91911
Date & Time: March 22nd, 2025 - April 20th, 2025 (select nights) - 10:00am - 1:00pm
Cost: Included with Admission

Sesame Place in Chula Vista is a fantastic park year-round for young kids with their seasonal Easter event, Elmo’s Eggstravaganza, being one of my favorites of the year!

This Easter they’re going all out and offering much more than just an Easter egg hunt. Starting March 22rd and taking place select dates until April 20th, 2025, the park will be holding an Easter Extravaganza. Some of the highlights are listed below.

  • Bunny Hop Dance Party
  • Easter Storytime
  • Easer Bunny Snacks and Crafts
  • Photos with the Sesame Street crew in their Eggstravaganza Attire
  • More Photos with the Easter Bunny!

In terms of Easter egg hunts, the park will have a few awesome options! The Golden Egg Hunt is a challenge to find the single, daily golden egg hidden somewhere in the park. Whoever finds it can turn it into Guest Services for a special prize.

The Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt will send your kids throughout the park looking for hidden eggs. Free egg finding sheets are available at Guest Services and for those that find them all, a prize will be waiting of course!

Let me also mention the Easter Dine with Elmo and Friends, a family-friendly buffet with singing, dancing and photo opportunities available on April 19th and April 20th. The ticket price is $44.99 per person with time slots at 11:30am and 1:00pm on each day. There are limited seats so if you’re interested I suggest you book in advance.

The park’s hours are Monday – Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00pm and Sunday from 10:00am to 6:00pm. They will be closed on April 7th and April 11th.

Offering multiple interactive Easter egg hunts plus so much more, we decided to feature Elmo's Eggstravaganza at Sesame Place San Diego on our Complete Guide to All the Holidays in San Diego guide.

Why We Love This Event

If you have younger kids, say preschool to elementary school age, I really think they’ll love Sesame Place as it’s designed with them in mind. I really love all of the park’s seasonal events as well as they are interactive and get the kids smiling and moving.

Elmo’s Eggstravaganza is special because it encompasses so much more than just an Easter egg hunt, and all of this is included with admission!

3) EGGstravaganza Spring Festival

Neighborhood: Carlsbad
Address:
Poinsettia Community Park: 6600 Hidden Valley Rd, Carlsbad, CA 92011
Date & Time: April 19th, 2025 - 10:00am - 1:00pm

The 2025 EGGstravaganza Spring Festival is set for Saturday, April 19th from 10:00am – 1:00pm in Poinsettia Community Park located at 6600 Hidden Valley Road.

Carlsbad’s largest egg hunt, which also is featured as part of our Complete Guide to All the Holidays in San Diego guide, is a big one with three fields set up with candy-filled eggs just waiting to be collected by the kids.

The ongoing ‘egg scramble’ starts at 10:30am and lasts until 12:30pm or until the eggs run out. One field will be for kids 6 and older that want to race, one for kids 5 and under, and one more for young kids, special needs kids and for families looking to take pictures. You don’t need to register to attend.

Families can also expect a fun zone, food and drinks for purchase, plus face-painting, cookie decorating, crafts, a soak the bunny event and much more!

$8 activity cards and $8 unlimited inflatables wristbands can be purchased up to three weeks in advance at four area community centers. The cards can be divided between kids for all the activities but the wristbands are per person.

Why We Love This Event

I personally think this might be the most thought out Easter egg hunt in the area with multiple fields and hundreds of eggs to be collected.

The annual event features the Easter Bunny and enough crafts, candy and inflatables to keep your kids entertained for hours!

Our next suggestion for the best Easter egg hunts in San Diego in 2025 is the Easter Egg Hunt hosted by Pemberley Realty.

Date & Time: April 13th, 2025 - 8:00am – 4:00pm

Not to be confused with the Mountain View between San Jose and San Francisco, our Mountain View is not far from Downtown San Diego, just north of National City and it’s the home of my next selection. The Giant Easter Egg Hunt at 603-641 S Boundary St, San Diego, CA 92113 will kick off bright and early at 8:00am on Sunday, April 13th.

There will be hundreds of eggs filled with candy and little toys, and I mean hundreds, scattered about for the kids to collect.

Date & Time: April 20th, 2025 - 10:00am – 1:30pm
Cost: Adult - $227 | Children - 5 to 10 $117 | 4 & Under Free

My next choice is a fancy one and not for the faint of heart, but if you can swing it, I think it will be an event to remember!

The Hotel Del Coronado, located at 1500 Orange Ave., Coronado, is one of the most iconic hotels on Coronado Island, and honestly in the whole of San Diego. When it comes to seasonal events, they always do them first-class.

The Easter Brunch and Beach Egg Hunt at Hotel Del will take place on Easter morning, April 20th, 2025 from 10:00am until 1:30pm. Tickets are $227 for adults and $117 for kids 5 to 10 with kids 4 and under being free.

On top of the huge meal, there will be two Easter egg hunts on the north end of the beach at 10:00am and then at 12:00pm, separated by age group and exclusively for guests of the hotel and brunch guests.

Why We Love This Event

While the price of this event might be a bit much for some, I wanted to include a few options for those looking for a lavish event to celebrate Easter.

When you throw in the Easter egg hunt on the beach for the kids, this will be an incredibly memorable event!

For $27.72 a person, which gets you into the event and includes a donation to the Balboa Park Endowment Fund, you’ll be set to take part in the Mystery & History Scavenger Hunt & Picnic Party In The Park.

The event will be ‘part history & part mystery’ all about Balboa Park. The scavenger hunt and picnic party will be in the Historic District only and will have you looking for things like historical markers, signs, buildings, plus trees and monuments.

While not an Easter egg hunt, the event will be on Easter weekend and have the feel of a spring gathering. The event is set for adults, so 21+ to attend.

Why We Love This Event

This is a twist to our Easter egg hunt ideas, but we wanted to include it for adults that want to get together on Easter weekend for a fun scavenger hunt, some great food and a bit of socializing.

I think if you don’t have kids and want to make some new friends, this could be a really fun event.

Rancho Bernardo: 17550 Bernardo Oaks Drive, San Diego, CA 92128
Date & Time: April 19th, 2025 - 10:00am – 1:00pm
Cost: Adult Tickets $80 | Kids Ticket $45 | Kids 2 and Under- Free

For my 12th and final suggestion for the best places to go for an Easter egg hunt in 2025, I’ll take you just south of Escondido and one of my family’s favorite attractions, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and just north of Poway to Rancho Bernardo.

The Brunch with the Bunny at Bernardo Winery, located at 1330 Paseo Del Verano N., will take place on Saturday, April 19th, 2025 from 10:00am until 1:00pm with tickets costing $80 for adults, $45 for kids and the little guys 2 and under being admitted for free.

The event will include a delicious brunch with favorites like bacon and eggs, yogurt, fruit and pastries. And while the food will surely be a highlight, I’m looking forward to the Easter egg hunt in the vineyard for the kids.

There will also be face painting and balloon twisting, plus cookie decorating, springtime crafts and of course an appearance by the Easter Bunny, all while the adults enjoy orange, mango, cranberry or guava mimosas.

Why We Love This Event

Local Tips & Things to Know

Now that you have the list of our top 12 Easter events and Easter egg hunts for 2025, let me give you just a couple tips so you can maximize your fun.

Are Pets Allowed?

This is a great question!

I’d say for most events, especially those at the hotels, the answer would be that it is probably best to leave your furry friends at home. Many of the community events aren’t clear so you’d have to bring them at the risk of being told there were no pets allowed. Service animals of course will be welcomed at all events.

I’d suggest taking them to one of San Diego’s dog-friendly beaches instead after the Easter event to be safe.

Fun Kid Attractions at Belmont Park in Mission Beach
Fun Kid Attractions at Belmont Park in Mission Beach

Dress Appropriately

Most of these events are outdoors set to be held rain or shine. It’s very likely that San Diego’s weather will be warm and sunny, but you never know!

If it is sunny, wear sunscreen and a hat if possible and be sure to check the forecast no matter what so you can come prepared.

Reserve Early

I would suggest that if the event you’re considering sells tickets, to get yours as early as you can. I can tell you that many of these events were completely sold out in advance of the event in 2024.

Some are limited on their space so they have to cap the attendance and you won’t want to miss out.
