While hitting the beach is the number one thing to do for travelers staying at Leucadia Beach Inn, it’s far from the only activity in the Encinitas area!
Once you’ve gotten your fill of sunbathing and surfing, it’s time to shop, see local landmarks, and enjoy the best of what this coastal neighborhood has to offer.
Surf in Leucadia
Leucadia’s beaches are just a short walk from the hotel. Two of the closest are Grandview Surf Beach and Beacon’s Beach, both of which are excellent places to surf.
Grandview is well-suited to beginners, earning it a spot on our list of San Diego’s best surfing beaches. Beacon’s Beach, also known as South Leucadia State Beach, is fairly secluded, making it ideal for anyone who wants to swim and sunbathe in peace.
Don’t forget to pick up a Go City San Diego pass before renting a surfboard, especially if you’re also interested in paddleboarding and kayaking.
Explore Leucadia’s Sights
Leucadia is a cozy beach town with plenty of sidewalk cafes and small shopping centers, alongside a love of all things beachy.
Right across the street from the hotel is the Gold Coast Mall, a quaint stripmall with boutique stores and small businesses. Grab a smoothie at the juice bar, do some shopping, or just enjoy the warm weather and cool ocean breeze.
Visit the Botanic Gardens
The San Diego Botanic Garden is a charming garden filled with native and exotic plants. Walk the trails and be transported to distant bamboo groves, tropical rainforests, fruit gardens, and desert landscapes.
Alternatively, the Self-Realization Fellowship Meditation Gardens are also worth a visit. These gardens border Swami's Beach and offer stunning views of the ocean from the cliffside.
