The Beach Haven Hotel does not independently schedule any activities or tours. But since they’re close to so many popular destinations in San Diego, there will be plenty of options nearby.
Let’s explore some things I’d recommend you consider during your stay.

Wave Getting Ready to Break in Pacific Beach
Activities on the Property
While the Beach Haven doesn’t directly have onsite activities, they do have a pool, hot tub and access to Pacific Beach just a block away.
There you can try surfing, go for a swim, take a nice walk along the shore or get a fantastic tan in the sunny and cool weather that makes San Diego famous.

Entrance into the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park
Things to Do Nearby
The Beach Haven is truly located in a great location! You’ll be close to plenty of restaurants, shops and bars. There are also a number of my favorite attractions within a short rideshare from the property.
As a longtime local, narrowing down my suggestions is tough, but, let me give it a try!
Some of my Favorite Attractions in San Diego
Beyond the beaches, many of my favorite attractions in San Diego are within about 30 minutes from the Beach Haven Hotel.
SeaWorld San Diego in Mission Bay Park offers thrill rides, marine life, and plenty of family-friendly activities.
The Birch Aquarium at Scripps is about 20 minutes away by car or rideshare to the north in La Jolla and a fantastic educational aquarium I recommend for families. My kids have enjoyed the hands-on approach and learned about local sea life during our many trips.
If you’re willing to make the 30 minute trip down to Balboa Park then you’ll be treated to trails, cafes, museums plus the world-famous San Diego Zoo and my favorite exhibit featuring the Chinese pandas. Some of my family-friendly daytime recommendations would be the Fleet Science Center, Natural History Museum, the San Diego Air and Space Museum, and Museum of Us.
My Favorite Beach Activities
Personally, I love spending time outdoors and especially love surfing. I know it can seem intimidating but if you’ve never tried, I encourage you to give it a shot.
The 90 minute Private Surf Lesson gets you up on a board while you’re staying in Pacific Beach.
You could also try paddle boarding. I’d recommend setting out from one of the beaches in Mission Bay Park as the manmade bay has calm waters perfect for cruising around on your board.
Grab a Go City San Diego Pass
San Diego has so much to offer that I always recommend a Go City San Diego pass to help visitors do and see more, at a fraction of the cost.
The pass will provide you deep discounts on San Diego’s best attractions, activities and it’s a system where the more you do, the more you save.
You can also use our discount code GVSD5OFF during check out for an extra 5% off.
Go Out to Eat
You can enjoy fine dining at JRDN Restaurant & Bar, grab a drink at the 1920s tiki themed speakeasy, The Grass Skirt, or visit a farmer’s market for the freshest, local produce.
Definitely make time for one of San Diego’s best burgers at Rocky’s Crown Pub. Heads up, it’s good to know that the pub is strictly 21 and over.
If you’re traveling with kids, be sure to stop by Mr. Frostie for some soft serve ice cream or a sundae. I also could recommend SOI PB Thai Street Food which is just over a block away.
Shop and Stroll
Whether you’re looking to spend or just want to enjoy window shopping, you can take your pick between two of my favorite malls in the area, the Westfield UTC Mall San Diego or Fashion Valley Mall.
Other great options nearby to explore for shopping or strolling would be Downtown La Jolla or venturing over to Downtown San Diego where there are many options for window shopping.
You will also be close to the unique San Diego options at Seaport Village and the historic Liberty Station.
Nurture your Night Owl
If you’re ready to go out for the evening and experience San Diego’s nightlife, Pacific Beach is a great choice.
You’ll find an abundance of cocktail lounges, tap rooms, taverns, dance halls, and clubs in the area. You can grab a cab or summon a rideshare service to experience the popular nearby nightlife venues such as Thrusters Lounge, Duck Dive, and the Tap Room all in Pacific Beach.
My other choice for nightlife would be venturing over to the Gaslamp Quarter, a historic neighborhood about a 30 minute Uber away in Downtown San Diego.
