Budget & Family-friendly Accommodations in a Fantastic Location

Walking into Beach HavenMain Entrance to Beach Haven Along Mission Blvd

If you’re looking for a cozy and casual beachy stay that’s all about location, then the Beach Haven Hotel could be for you!

Located along Mission Blvd., just one block from the Pacific Ocean and quaintly nestled in the heart of the iconic Pacific Beach, the Beach Haven offers a modern coastal getaway with picturesque vistas and 21st-century style.

I have lived in the area for many years and can assure you that with a stay at the property you will be walking distance to many sandy beaches, restaurants, cafes, nightclubs, and boutiques that perfectly encapsulate the area. Plus guests will also find the beautiful Mission Bay around a mile to the south.

A Location Near the Beach

Built in 1967 and recently renovated, to me the Beach Haven offers easy going Southern California charm with family-friendly vibes.

You can visit the nearby beaches including North Pacific Beach, Pacific Beach, PB Point and Tourmaline Surf Park. When the waves aren’t too big, you can find me at Pacific Beach with my surfboard.

I would suggest Tourmaline Surf Park as a great place for beginners. If you’re interested in a Private Surf Lesson, they’re offered right from the beach including everything you’ll need but a swimsuit and towel.

Head to North Pacific Beach if you’re looking for a great place to swim and sunbath. Or just take a leisurely stroll along the 3 mile boardwalk and enjoy views of the beautiful coastline.

Plus, you can enjoy easy walks to some of the best restaurants, shops, and nightclubs in the area.

World-class Sunsets

So I might be a bit biased, but I think that sunsets over the Pacific Ocean are incredible!

Pacific Beach just happens to be listed on our Best 14 Places to Watch the Sunset in San Diego article and a stay at the Beach Haven is just a block away.

Hotel Amenities

Beach Haven features a heated outdoor pool in the center courtyard and a hot tub perfect for a relaxing evening after a long day in the sun. If you have questions or arrive late, the 24-hour front desk will be at your service.

The hotel also includes a little more than the standard in-room microwave dining option. Many of the rooms have kitchenettes. And for those that don’t, there’s an add-on kitchen option and outdoor grill available for use.

Parking & Pets

Parking, especially mid-day and overnight parking, can be tough in Pacific Beach.

The great news is that the Beach Haven includes free parking with your stay as well as wheelchair-accessible parking.

Service animals are allowed on the property, but be advised that the property is not pet friendly which means that only service animals are welcomed.

Why I Love Beach Haven

The Beach Haven’s motto and goal is to help you explore the Pacific’s call, from its beaches and waves to its neighborhoods and sights. With spacious rooms, elegant black and white interior design, large windows and natural sunlight, it all comes together to create a cozy home away from home.

I live in Pacific Beach and would say not to discount this little gem by the beach. Let me tell you a little more about why I love this hotel.

Kitchenettes & Grills - Save On Restaurant Costs

Beach Haven’s kitchenettes, add-on kitchen, and grills are a great alternative to dining out and having the option to cook a meal is something I really love about the place.

I say save on restaurant costs and enjoy your favorite meal right from the comfort of your room.

Beach & Surf Themed Rooms

I love the beach and surf theme decor of the hotel!

The rooms sport classic colors accented with shades of blue and the aquatic themed details are a really nice touch which adds to the relaxed and comfortable vibes of the hotel.

A Relaxing Pool

I’ll be honest here and say the pool is small, especially when compared to the ocean that’s just a block away, but sometimes all you need is a pool to sit and relax.

And that’s exactly what Beach Haven’s pool and hot tub offer. No frills, just a comfortable place for you and your family to sit back and relax.

The Beach Haven’s rooms are designed to be simple, open and spacious. With white linens and ceiling fans, I’d describe them as clean with a classic, easy going Southern California charm.

Rooms of all types come with free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a hair dryer, and an HD Flat Screen TV with cable. Do keep in mind that since the property is a block away from the ocean, the Beach Haven does not offer rooms with an ocean view.

Guests must also be 21+ to reserve a room and check-in. And note that prices are based on double occupancy with children 12 and younger staying for free. Kids 13 and older will add a small charge to the rates below.

Making the Most of Your Stay: Nearby Things to Do

The Beach Haven Hotel does not independently schedule any activities or tours. But since they’re close to so many popular destinations in San Diego, there will be plenty of options nearby.

Let’s explore some things I’d recommend you consider during your stay.

Wave Getting Ready to Break in Pacific Beach
Wave Getting Ready to Break in Pacific Beach

Activities on the Property

While the Beach Haven doesn’t directly have onsite activities, they do have a pool, hot tub and access to Pacific Beach just a block away.

There you can try surfing, go for a swim, take a nice walk along the shore or get a fantastic tan in the sunny and cool weather that makes San Diego famous.

Entrance into the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park

Things to Do Nearby

The Beach Haven is truly located in a great location! You’ll be close to plenty of restaurants, shops and bars. There are also a number of my favorite attractions within a short rideshare from the property.

As a longtime local, narrowing down my suggestions is tough, but, let me give it a try!

Some of my Favorite Attractions in San Diego

Beyond the beaches, many of my favorite attractions in San Diego are within about 30 minutes from the Beach Haven Hotel.

SeaWorld San Diego in Mission Bay Park offers thrill rides, marine life, and plenty of family-friendly activities.

The Birch Aquarium at Scripps is about 20 minutes away by car or rideshare to the north in La Jolla and a fantastic educational aquarium I recommend for families. My kids have enjoyed the hands-on approach and learned about local sea life during our many trips.

If you’re willing to make the 30 minute trip down to Balboa Park then you’ll be treated to trails, cafes, museums plus the world-famous San Diego Zoo and my favorite exhibit featuring the Chinese pandas. Some of my family-friendly daytime recommendations would be the Fleet Science Center, Natural History Museum, the San Diego Air and Space Museum, and Museum of Us.

My Favorite Beach Activities

Personally, I love spending time outdoors and especially love surfing. I know it can seem intimidating but if you’ve never tried, I encourage you to give it a shot.

The 90 minute Private Surf Lesson gets you up on a board while you’re staying in Pacific Beach.

You could also try paddle boarding. I’d recommend setting out from one of the beaches in Mission Bay Park as the manmade bay has calm waters perfect for cruising around on your board.

Grab a Go City San Diego Pass

San Diego has so much to offer that I always recommend a Go City San Diego pass to help visitors do and see more, at a fraction of the cost.

The pass will provide you deep discounts on San Diego’s best attractions, activities and it’s a system where the more you do, the more you save.

You can also use our discount code GVSD5OFF during check out for an extra 5% off.

Go Out to Eat

You can enjoy fine dining at JRDN Restaurant & Bar, grab a drink at the 1920s tiki themed speakeasy, The Grass Skirt, or visit a farmer’s market for the freshest, local produce.

Definitely make time for one of San Diego’s best burgers at Rocky’s Crown Pub. Heads up, it’s good to know that the pub is strictly 21 and over.

If you’re traveling with kids, be sure to stop by Mr. Frostie for some soft serve ice cream or a sundae. I also could recommend SOI PB Thai Street Food which is just over a block away.

Shop and Stroll

Whether you’re looking to spend or just want to enjoy window shopping, you can take your pick between two of my favorite malls in the area, the Westfield UTC Mall San Diego or Fashion Valley Mall.

Other great options nearby to explore for shopping or strolling would be Downtown La Jolla or venturing over to Downtown San Diego where there are many options for window shopping.

You will also be close to the unique San Diego options at Seaport Village and the historic Liberty Station.

Nurture your Night Owl

If you’re ready to go out for the evening and experience San Diego’s nightlife, Pacific Beach is a great choice.

You’ll find an abundance of cocktail lounges, tap rooms, taverns, dance halls, and clubs in the area. You can grab a cab or summon a rideshare service to experience the popular nearby nightlife venues such as Thrusters Lounge, Duck Dive, and the Tap Room all in Pacific Beach.

My other choice for nightlife would be venturing over to the Gaslamp Quarter, a historic neighborhood about a 30 minute Uber away in Downtown San Diego.
